LoCuSS: Galaxy properties in and around massive clusters at z=0.2

Galaxy cluster evolution is driven by accretion, in the form of both baryonic and non-baryonic matter, of smooth continuous streams of small haloes, together with episodic merging of more massive systems. Given that clusters double their mass below z∼0.5, the LoCuSS survey provides the ideal dataset to study how accretion shapes clusters and their galaxy members. In particular, LoCuSS clusters have excellent data coverage in both wavelength and area, the latter of which includes infalling regions. I will present direct evidences of pre-processing in a population of newly discovered infalling groups, caught at their first encounter with the cluster environment. Star formation quenching appears effective in galaxies already prior to them settling in the cluster potential, and groups are favourable locations for this process. The fraction of star-forming galaxies in groups is compatible with cluster cores, suggesting that groups populate clusters with passive galaxies. Additionally, I will show a new study targeting dust consumption in cluster galaxies and its dependence with respect to the cluster dynamical state.
