OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

The Earth is part of a complex system of bodies, bound together by the gravitational force, that move around a star, our Sun.

These are nine principal planets, a number of satellites (moons), minor planets, asteroids, comets. There is also a diffused interplanetary gas component and dust, responsible for the so called zodiacal light. Since the last decades, in addition, a growing number of artificial satellites rotate around the Earth, or in the depths of interplanetary spaces. The system moves within the vast set of stars, dust and gas which we call the Milky Way. (JPEG, 37 K)
